The book is perfect to describe very well all the elements that underlaid the 2007 financial crisis.

I should even say that he describes very well all the elements that are always at the root of every financial crisis: hierarchy, stupidity, greed and blind fideism towards some fashionable kind of pseudo-scientific and/or statistical method that prevents most people from probing the horizon for the appearance of black swans. we are often at the mercy of organizations and institutions that act as war machines and proceed without any doubt and without asking any question … until they fall from the cliff ...

Will we ever learn the lesson? Probably never!

For a lifetime I heard stupid phrases like: "The market is always true!", "The market knows the good/fair price", "You are not asked to think, go ahead”, “we have always done so!" ...

These are all bullshit!

So, you can imagine, this book disturbs me a little because, on the one hand, being myself part of the financial world, it says nothing that really surprised me; in my experience I have seen much of this idiocy; on the other hand, while I try to keep on not getting used to blind stupidity, I am always amazed to learn that there is much more of that than even a pessimist can foresee.

Il libro descrive perfettamente tutti gli elementi alla base della crisi finanziaria del 2007.

Dovrei persino dire che esso descrive molto bene tutti gli elementi che sono sempre alla base di tutte le crisi finanziarie: gerarchia, stupidità, bramosia di guadagno e cieco fideismo verso qualche tipo di metodo pseudo-scientifico e/o statistico alla moda che impedisce ai più di scrutare l’orizzonte alla ricerca di “cigni neri”. Siamo spesso in balia di organizzazioni e istituzioni che agiscono come macchine da guerra e che procedono senza porsi dubbi e senza porsi domande … fino a che non cadono dalla rupe.

Impareremo mai la lezione? Probabilmente mai!

Per una vita ho ascoltato frasi stupide del tipo: “Il mercato è sempre veritiero!” “Il mercato conosce il prezzo corretto!”, “Non ti è richiesto di pensare, vai avanti”, “Abbiamo sempre fatto così!”.

Tutte stupidaggini!

Dunque potete anche immaginarlo, questo libro mi ha un po’ disturbato perché, da una parte, facendo parte anch'io del mondo finanziario, non racconta nulla che mi sorprenda veramente; nella mia esperienza ho visto molta dell’idiozia ivi descritta; dall'altra parte, mentre tento ancora di andare avanti sforzandomi di non abituarmi alla cieca stupidità, rimango sempre stupito di apprendere che c’è n’è sempre molta di più di quanto anche un pessimista possa prevedere.
